One of the trends that has taken over the cosmetics market and nail industry in particular recently has been crackle nail polish.
Crackle nail polish has been in the market for some time now but recently they have been making a comeback and have almost become an overnight hit. And why wouldn’t they? It’s an easy way to create gorgeous nail art.

Crackle nail polish is a form of nail lacquer that fragmentize when applied to nail plate, leaving you with an amazing stylish look.

The reason that this polish “crackles” is due to one key ingredient. One type of alcohol called ethanol which is often used in medicines and flavourings causes the nail polish to dry unevenly. This is because ethanol has the characteristic of evaporating very quickly as all alcohols tend to do. So when this ingredient is mixed with nail polish and is then applied to a surface, the ethanol in the polish evaporates leaving the polish to dry unevenly instead of a smooth layer.

Here are the simple steps to amazing crackled nails:

1. Apply a layer of non-crackle polish onto clean nails.

2. Once completely dry, add your layer of crackle on top. It’s amazing how many different effects you can get with just one crackle polish. Painting a very thin layer gives you smaller cracks while painting thick and heavier layers result in bigger crackles. If you’re looking for an even crazier crackle look, simply apply another layer before the first layer dries completely. You can even try painting in different directions on each nail - be as creative as you like with this.

3. Within seconds your polish will start to crack and allow your base coat to show through. To achieve a funky and dramatic effect, choose a contrasting coloured base coat with your crackle polish. If you would prefer a more subtle look then it is recommended to go with a base coat similar to the colour of your crackle.

4. Protect your design  with a top coat to give it glossy finish!
