Would You Love to be a Mobile Nail Technician?

If you have recently trained as a nail technician then you may be interested in starting your own business. However, many people are put off by the high set up costs that are often involved. If you are worried about the start up costs that would come with setting up a nail salon then you may want to consider being a mobile technician.

What is a Mobile Technician?

Mobile technicians work within a client’s home and they travel around their local area offering their services. It is a popular choice for newly qualified technicians as the start up costs do tend to be quite low. You do not have to worry about hiring out or purchasing a salon and the running costs of the business are also lower than they would be if you were to work in set premises.

Mobile technicians also get to choose their own hours. The work will generally be flexible and as you are visiting client’s homes it will also be quite varied too. Having a change of scenery every day can really make all of the difference when it comes to how fulfilling your work is. Being stuck in one place can often make you feel bored and unmotivated. So travelling around can actually be good for your working attitude. However, if you do want to be a mobile nail technician then there are some things that you need to know.

What Mobile Technicians Need

There are certain criteria that you need to meet as a mobile technician and these include having appropriate insurance and qualifications.

As you will be going into your clients homes you will need to have appropriate insurance in case anything were to go wrong. You could accidentally cause damage within the client’s home. Or maybe you could become injured whilst doing a job within the home? If so then you will need adequate insurance. You will also need the right qualifications too.

Typically you should aim to have at least an NVQ Unit in Beauty Therapy Level 3. You should also enquire whether you need to have a local license too. Usually you gain a license when you complete a college course in the subject. Without adequate qualifications it may not be legal to work as a mobile technician and you may not be able to claim on your insurance either if something were to go wrong.

Overall mobile technicians can earn a really good income by offering their services in their client’s homes. It is more convenient for the client and so often they are willing to pay more. Make sure that if you do set up your own mobile business that you take into account the cost of travelling. You should be able to claim some expenses back on your tax but you also need to be able to afford them in the first place! It is important to be aware of the potential disadvantages as well as the advantages if you are to be successful.
