Using Scissors and Tip Cutters in your Salon

You will find that when it comes to purchasing nail tools, you have a large selection open to you. There are so many different tools that you can buy, so just how do you know which ones would be right for your salon?

One particular tool which you may be unsure about is scissors. You can purchase a wide variety of different scissors and many technicians have tried to use them instead of nail clippers. However, there are many things that you need to keep in mind when using scissors in your salon. Here you will find out more about the different uses for scissors in the nail salon as well as how to correctly use tip cutters.

The Uses for Scissors in the Nail Salon Environment

The main thing to remember about scissors in the nail salon is that they should never really be used to cut through natural nails. You could give it a go if the scissors are really, really sharp, but typically it is not a good idea. Scissors will more than likely cause a lot of damage to the nail if you try to cut through it and they will not give you good results either. It is much better to use sharp nail clippers instead.

However, there are other uses for scissors around the salon. One of them is to cut the material that is used in some types of overlay systems. The materials used are usually really fragile and so they need something small and sharp to cut through them. So choosing a pair of scissors that have quite long, thin blades are your best option.

Another job you can use scissors for is to cut pre tailored tips. You will need to choose a curved blade pair of scissors for this job. Finally when you are creating nail designs you can use scissors in a large number of ways. So there are other uses for scissors in the salon; just not to cut nails with.

Using Tip Cutters

Tip cutters are designed to be used with artificial nail tips. Often you will find that artificial nails need to be trimmed down. They do come in different sizes but your client will often want a shorter length than the options you have available. So you can use tip cutters to trim down tough artificial nails.

You will find that their design is similar to that which a vet uses to trim down animal claws. Artificial tips are stronger and so they need a strong cutter to cut through them. If you do not use a tool which is sharp enough then it will more than likely chip the nail and you will need to start again.

Overall both tip cutters and scissors can be really useful in a nail salon. You just have to learn how to use each one properly.
