Are you considering a Career as a Media Technician?
If you like the media world and all that surrounds it then a job as a media technician may be exactly what you are looking for. Working for the rich and famous, being in an exciting and fast paced environment and providing only the best nail services, media technicians are often in demand. However, is it a career that you are cut out for?
The Advantages and Disadvantages
Media technicians definitely have a varied and exciting job. However, there are also many potential downsides to a career within the media environment. You need to consider both the advantages and disadvantages of the job description before you can be sure whether it is a career to suit you or not.
You will be working with demanding clients and so you will need to be patient as well as flexible. You will also need to carry around heavy equipment and travel quite a lot too. This is because the work which you will be doing will be based in different locations. Your services will be used at photo shoots around the country and behind the scenes at catwalks and fashion shows. Very rarely will you be based in one single location all year round!
The hours are also varied. Some days you will be expected to work extremely long hours whilst others you may only be required for a couple of hours maximum. So if you are looking for a nine-five job then this definitely isn’t the career for you!
However, there are also advantages to working in the media environment. If you have an agent then you can potentially earn a lot of money. Media companies always deal with agents and it ensures that you get paid the best rates for your work. You may also get to work with famous people so that is another advantage.
Generally you will need to have a high level of skill in nail design and nail treatments. Media technicians are expected to be the best in their field and so it would help if you had a portfolio to show companies when you are looking to be hired. You don’t necessarily have to have a lot of experience, but you do need to be good at what you do. You could always start off doing people’s nails for special occasions. This will help you to build up a portfolio if you do not currently have one.
Overall as a media technician you will be required to have insurance, be the best at what you do and be reliable, flexible and be discreet too. If you meet these requirements and working in a fast paced and stressful environment doesn’t bother you then it could be your dieal career!
